Gene Crawford has been playing Toli on the UGA team since March 1992 and is currently the team's White Captain and Goalie. Three weeks after he joined the team he played Conehatta for the first time and has played in every Choctaw game since then. He also played as Goalie for Conehatta in their first game during the 1997 Toli World SeriesBack to the Flying Rat Home PageThe only game against the Choctaw Gene has missed was played in Athens while he was recovering from one of the team's more serious injuries, a separated shoulder.
When not on the field Gene is a graduate student in Microbiology. He received his Master's degree at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale studying translation and and stress responses in E. coli with Dr. Jack Parker. Gene is currently working on his PhD studying the development of Myxococcus xanthus under the direction of Dr. Larry Shimkets (the team's Faculty Advisor) in the Department of Microbiology at UGA.
